Colt invented their first aluminum-alloy-framed pistol and they called it the Colt Commander. Later, Colt introduced an all-steel version called the Combat Commander and renamed the aluminum-framed pistol the Lightweight Commander. This pistol was manufactured in early 1950, the first full year of production for the Commander. In 1949, there were approximately 65 guns built, starting in October. This example rates at about a 97% finish, with wear confined to the muzzle area. It comes with the correct style two-piece, wood grain box, but it is not numbered to this gun.
