Price: $8,999.00 | Product Code: Ovundo | Availability: In Stock
This is a Westley Richards Ovundo Game Gun with 28-inch barrels in 12 Gauge with 2-3/4 inch chambers. The barrels are engraved “Westley Richards & Co. London” and “Ovundo” on the solid concave game rib. The left side rib under the forend is engraved “Ovundo System” and “Reg.d no. 354045/ 1913”. The bottoms of the barrel bolsters have Birmingham nitro proofs for 1-1/4 oz of shot. The bottom of the bottom barrel is stamped with “Hill Rod & Gun"” and the serial number. The water table is marked with Birmingham proofs and patent information for the trigger and Ovundo system. The action and floorplate are engraved with large open shaded scroll at about 80% coverage with “Westley Richards & Co.” on either side.
The box-lock action features a Westley Richards pivoting top lever, which actuates dual locking bolts. It also features an automatic safety (marked “Safe” and inlaid in gold) and Westley Richards dual triggers. The top of the action is engraved “Westley Richards Ejector” in front of the top lever. The large bow trigger guard has scroll engraving on the bow and the serial number on grip.
The lightly streaked and figured, European Walnut, straight-grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over a solid pad. It has point pattern checkering at 24 LPI with a line border. The matching forend has a Deeley release. The other specs are as follows:
- Bore diameter: top -.700, bottom -.715
- Wall thickness: top -.050, bottom -.053
- Drop at heel: 2-1/8"
- Drop at comb: 1-5/8"
- Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz
- LoP: 14-5/8"
The barrels retain most of an old re-black. The action is mostly pewter gray, with traces of case hardening color in protected areas. The floorplate, trigger guard, and top lever have been re-blued. This blue shows faint wear, but the engraving is sharp. The buttstock shows most of an old oil refinish, with the sharp edges slightly rounded. The checkering has been re-cut and is sharp. The action is tight, the barrels are on face, the ejectors are in time, and the triggers work.
This gun comes in a nice, original trunk case with the Westley Richards Shop label. This is an affordable example of this rugged classic.
